In Back to the Future, there is a time-machine in the form of a DeLorean whose flux capacitor can only activate if the vehicle is moving at 88 mph (or 141.6096 km/h).

In broadcasting

In the Americas, the Band I ends at 88 MHz.

In the United States and some other countries, the FM broadcast band starts at 88 MHz, but in most cases, the first usable carrier frequency is 88.1 MHz.
